We live in a society that values equality as our basis for interaction. However, there are many uncontrollable factors which we have no control over that affect our interactions. These range from our physical ability to our gender identity. In Jamie Utt's "The Importance of Listening as a Privileged Person Fighting for Justice" on Everyday Feminism, he covers the many advantages certain individual s enjoy due to entirely arbitrary characteristics. In American society specifically, I myself have a ridiculous amount of privileges. I am a straight, white, able-bodied, male identifying, English speaking individual with solid financial support. And throughout my life these privileges have provided me with a myriad of passive advantages. This isn't people directly acting on my behalf. Like Cameron Russell's "Looks Aren't Everything" TED Talk, I have essentially inherited a legacy and won an ovarian lottery that has put me a ways ahead of millions of others. After reading the article, what sort of experiences and/or observations have you had with privilege?
